It’s been a busy first half of 2016 for British Blues Awards nominated guitarist and songwriter Jack J Hutchinson.

Over the last six months he’s played to audiences across the UK, with highlights including supporting Paul Lamb at his album launch in Camden, returning to the 100 Club, being invited to play at a jam packed Blues on the Farm Festival, his tracks Locomotive Blues and Loving Man being playlisted on BBC Radio 2, as well as numerous press including a feature in Classic Rock Blues Magazine. Oh and to top things off – sharing a few beers backstage with Blackberry Smoke on their recent tour.

Now this month Hutchinson is back in the studio working on a new solo record which is set for release later this year.

Explaining the sessions, he said: “I really enjoyed the recording of my EP Unplugged last winter and decided to follow the same blueprint, but this time put a band together. I’ve invited a few special guests, some familiar names and other talented performers.”

The record is once again being recorded by Tony Perretta at his studio in South London. “He’s a joy to work with and really gets the best out of me. I want my records to sound warm but have a guttural, bluesy soul. Think Charley Patton meets Neil Young via Delaney and Bonnie. Tony gets that.”

Hutchinson is once again putting the emphasis on original material. “I’m a songwriter first and foremost. Fortunately the last few months have been really fruitful in terms of new songs. I want to create something new, not just replay the past. I just thought, why wait? So the sessions were booked and we are in there now stirring the pot.”

In addition, Hutchinson’s first album with the Boom Boom Brotherhood is also on the horizon. “Working on two records at the same time might seem crazy but I’ve always been a workaholic. You only live once! We are on the home stretch in terms of the Boom album. Rick Baxendale, who is the band’s bassist, is also producing and engineering. He’s created something pretty smoking! I can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

Follow updates on the recording sessions via Hutchinson’s Instagram and Facebook.

Full details on the Boom Boom Brotherhood’s new single and video will be released shortly.
