‘Deal With The Devil‘ is a three minute burst of southern blues rock – imagine Blackberry Smoke and Rival Sons jamming out Physical Graffiti and you get the vibe!
Hutchinson explains: “I wrote the track whilst on tour in Russia earlier in the summer late at night after a sold out show and one too many whiskies. I usually try to avoid politics in my songwriting but there’s so much turmoil in the world at the moment. The song is a call to arms to find a better way of life.”
Explaining the recording process, Hutchinson said: “I’d already recorded 11 tracks for the album but felt like it was missing a kick ass opener. I got hold of an Electro Harmonix POG 2 and was experimenting. That’s how the middle eight came together. It was also a lot of fun singing it. I really got to wail which I love doing!”
The video, directed by Neil Collins, features renowned drummer Felipe Amorin and Zagor Rossi on bass. Production is by Tony Perretta at Shoebox Studios in south London.
The track was named in Classic Rock Magazine’s ‘Tracks of the Week’ feature, alongside the Rolling Stones and Black Label Society.
They said: “Enjoy the rootsy oomph of The Black Crowes and Blackberry Smoke? You’ll appreciate the dulcet tones of British blues-meets-Southern rock singer/guitarist Jack J Hutchinson – complete here with background organ blasts and loose sunshiney sensibilities for a rousing overall effect. Lovely bridge section too, complete with ‘ahhhh!’ backing vocal layers.”
